Kent Johnson, Strategic Advisor

Kent Johnson is a Strategic Advisor at Alexander Hutton. Johnson’s current business activities include advising on Mergers & Acquisitions and positioning private companies for maximum enterprise value, acting as a shareholder Representative for post-merger indemnity escrows, and providing litigation support services, including being an expert witness on management and board of director’s fiduciary duties and responsibilities. A recent Shareholder Representative engagement involved representing 300 equal selling shareholders in a $400+ million merger. Expert witness engagements have included testifying on corporate governance practices, business viability and business strategy.

With a business career spanning over 40 years, Johnson has held various leadership positions including CEO, COO, CFO, Managing Director, board member, investment banker, venture capitalist, private investor and consultant. He has been directly involved in over 60 start-up and emerging growth companies and five public companies that combined raised over $1 billion in various forms of private and public equity and debt financings. Johnson is currently a board member of Vera Whole Health (formerly Chairman), RO Health (Chairman) and AI Dynamics. Johnson was also a former Director of numerous Northwest companies, including F5 Networks (FFIV) and served on the Board of Trustees of Seattle University for a decade as a member of SU’s audit committee.

Johnson was awarded his BA degree in accounting from the University of Washington and his MBA degree from Seattle University. He received his CPA certificate in 1974 (now non-practicing) and his NASD Broker/Dealer license (now non-practicing) in 1995. His prior work experience has included working as a CPA for Arthur Andersen, LLP, CEO of two software companies, COO of Brazier Forest Industries, President and Co-Founder of Alexander Hutton Capital, LLC, an NASD broker/dealer and investment banking firm, and Managing Director and Co-Founder of Alexander Hutton Venture Partners, a $100 million venture capital firm.

Johnson is a former adjunct professor of MBA business management courses at Seattle University and he was selected by SU in 1991 as one of 100 outstanding alumni covering its 100-year history. Subsequently, Johnson endowed and created the Lawrence K. Johnson Chair of Entrepreneurship at SU in honor of his Father in 2000. He is currently an active member of the Advisory Board of the SU Entrepreneurship Center. Johnson was also a Distinguished Military Graduate (DMG) of the U.S. Army OCS and was a nuclear missile officer. In this capacity he received the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service. He is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and the Seattle Roundtable.
